Bodegas Paso Robles is winery I recently discovered. They produce wines using Spanish and Potuguese varieties. Graciano, Tinta Cao and Touriga Nacional come to mind. I also know there are several producers in Monterey County utilizing Portuguese varieties for Port.

Holding out for a Touriga/Touriga/Tinta Roriz blend from California. Or, with all the Zin "port" out there, maybe a more tradional number would put some hitch in your giddyup.

Granted, there's a lot of meh Sangiovese, Barbera, and Tempranillo coming from the Golden State, so I'm a little skeptical with the ol' Italian and Iberian grapies over there. But, I hope someone puts in the effort to make them great. Definitely not as "marketable" as the big French guys, so someone would have to have a real passion (reminds me of when I was in Temecula talking to a winemaker, and he seemed frustrated that they have to make all these wines from grapes that don't grow well there, because that's what the weekend warriors from SD and LA want, where it could possibly be a serious growing region for some lesser know varieties).
